      SpaceDustbin08

Hi guys, SpaceDustbin08 here. I thought I'd start posting my progress soon.
Being a full time college student and part time content creator leaves little time for updates and dalek posting, but now I'm ready to post and this is a short-ish brief on my budget dalek.

      HERE WE GO!

Basically, after high school I got bored. Really bored. So I had the bright idea of making my own Dalek, because why not. With help from my grandad who has a background in woodwork and welding etc, we quickly decided that this wouldn't be exactly like a dalek from comic cons, because of a college kid's budget and for storage space. This Dalek would be unique!

The pictures that I post on here will be from July 2024 onwards.
Find out more as I post about it...

      Here's my custom dalek!
I'll try to build the exact same IRL as a full scale size

      Dalek Two Zero

Had a great time in Liverpool, but did notice a bunch of jobs to sort out.
My wiring from the eyelight is loose in the cockpit, I need to secure a lot of wiring, probably using pieces of hose pipe to clip it in.
It wants splitting too, so it is easier to separate with the dome and neck off.
My cockpit could do with some better organization, so I can have powerbricks feeding cameras.
The superior front blindspot cam should be added.
The holder for my iris control needs replacing and moving to make access to it easier - I was struggling to deliver smooth "cheeky winks"
Internal storage needs to be increased.
My onboard spares and tools case was missing a couple of bits.
All my camera phones need the movies removing, I was constantly running out of space.
After two days heavy use, and no overnight charge, I was showing 70% battery remaining.
The gun could really do with a feature, such as that pop out flag, it's useless as it is.
I need to label the lightswitch for my eyelight too, I kept forgetting if it was on or off!

If you dont mind me asking, what tutorials (whether on youtube, or elsewhere) would you recommend for this? As I'd like to implement them into my future dalek models. @Prydonian

Its never truly ideal to approach modelling a Dalek from a rough often inaccurate outline though, its worth seeking out other non-Dalek tutorials and then looping back around to modelling the Dalek using the PDF dimensions I'd say personally. Those orthographic views are just an approx to get you to grips with the general shape, they are not a truly accurate representation of the design. You'd end up with an Ok Dalek that's mostly reasonable but with a smidge bit more attention you end up with a much more sophisticated model that's worth the time.

It seems I have a lot to learn about Dalek acoustics. Initially I was under the impression that they're basically like speaker cabinets, with sound direction being heavily dependent on speaker orientation. Seems that isn't quite the case.

The space between the gun and arm controls, on the inside of the shoulders is a useful position for the voice mod or any other devices/switches you may want to add. I would keep this area clear. Also, at the front, the collars and slats are not very deep, so a speaker will be more obvious on the outside.   I added two speakers, one on each side of the dalek, mounted on the inside of the shoulders with the cones pointing through holes cut out behind the upper collars. They are located behind the wider section of the upper collars, around the 3 and 8 o'clock positions, between the collar spacers.
