      Hi Craig.

I've just bought a 2nd movie dalek (originally from This Planet Earth) and looking to make many improvements.

The eye stalk is impossibly heavy, being made from solid aluminium rods with aluminium disks and an eye ball that appears to be cast resin(!)

It all has to be a lot lighter as I want to remote control the eye and dome and install a blue LED etc.
I have someone who will 3D print the eyeball and I think I can source the aluminium tubing etc but Im stuck with the disks.

Can you supply me with a set of perspex disks please?

Im in Jersey (postage should be the same as UK) so please let me know if you can send some over and the cost?

      Mod edit: email/phone removed.

      Cheers

      Mike

Sad news about Tony Slattery - I had the pleasure of meeting him both in and out of a Dalek last September.
Here is the low res Dalek eyecam footage - he shook my claw!

My Dalek skirt is made from 18mm ply, with 6mm MDF, its heavy, so wondering whether to split it in two, your thoughts out there please?

Update on painting progress: Skirt fully primed and the first two layers of paint have been applied. I chose an emulsion paint with the "Saint-Maxime" colour, which is a deep slate turquoise (looks a lot more blue in photos than in reality). I was partially inspired by the Tussauds Dalek, but I didn't want the colour quite as bright and overbearing. The colour is a bit like the Renegades' paint with the saturation cranked up. I also took some photos with half the hemis fitted before beginning the second layer, just to get a visual of the end product.

Calculating the gap between the pivot hole and the centre of the dome, the pivot hole itself, and the gap between the pivot hole and the dome edge, the dome edge seems to measure 530 in diameter.   And yet, the overall measurements for the length of the dome edge were 460 in the plans.   Am I reading this correctly?   I saw that there was a previous thread on 'NSD Dome Detailing Dimensions Making No Sense', which suggested all measurements were measured directly from an actual, physical curvy NSD dome. So, I attempted to measure it according to the curve using 'edge length' on blender. However, this still causes the pivot hole to push out of the conical section.   Am I doing anything wrong?   Thanks

This morning I ripped the fender timber on my bandsaw. I'd had to postpone doing this job, as one of the blade roller guides in the bandsaw had come loose, and I needed a replacement part to arrive. First thing, I scaled up and sketched the dimensions of the fender, plus its approximate position in relation to the skirt wall and drill hole positions.   As I am cutting a hardwood, it is critical that the bandsaw is set up properly to achieve nice, true cuts. I spent a fair bit of time setting up the bandsaw, adjusting the blade tension, setting the bearings correctly etc. Even so, I was a touch apprehensive when I started... however, my concerns were unfounded, as the bandsaw performed excellently, cutting all 42 pieces without a hitch.   For some of the longer pieces, I would cut halfway down the length, then flip the piece over and do the rest from the opposite side. It was always very pleasing to see the bandsaw cut accurately hit the previous cut square-on at the halfway point! Of course, as these are to be glued together, I need nice flat pieces of wood!   I thought I'd specified excess width on my beechwood timber order, so would need to rip the top and bottom pieces seperately, but as it turned out the supplied wood was exactly the right dimension to get both segment sections in a single cut. So bad measuring on my part, but lucky! I'll start gluing it all tomorrow.

Other option is to go full size cardboard Dalek - as I don't think this chair can carry more weight than that.   A wood/board frame skinned in cardboard, papier mache hemis?   I already have a papier mache dome.   Perhaps non functional arms?
