Does anyone remember an early cgi render of a Dalek crawling out of its casing? It was around the time the 'Storm' design came out & the Dalek under the water.· 0 replies

Really impressed by the video of the mostly original 1966 Dalek auctioned by Bamfords in 2016 posted by @Mike Aubert in his build diary.· 0 replies

@bertus yeah, that’s kinda my thoughts too. Plus the fact that you’d be cramped inside that little thing. You’d have a lot more fine control over it though, especially with the plunger and gun. -

Being inside and becoming a Dalek is, I think, the most fulfilling part of this hobby - well it was for me anyway. I grew up being in awe of Daleks, hiding behind my parents sofa, but in the same breath not being able to pull my eyes from the screen. So, I realised one of my childhood dreams when I finally got inside and trundled around shouting at the general public and generally having the time of my life. But Being grown-up and practical about this for a moment, here are the cons: * You need a helper of some description to help you get in and out unless you hinge the shoulder section (or devise some other way to get in other than having sections lifted on) * You need a minder to ensure that you don't collide with obstacles / people / children that you don't / can't see while inside * If your Dalek is foot powered you need to be fit - even if you trundle around inside a building you will emerge sweating like you've never sweated before due to the exertion and the tight space with little or no airflow * After trundling you will ache for days in areas you never knew you had You can of course fit a powered wheelchair to overcome some of the above but in so doing transporting the Dalek becomes a little bit more problematic due to the additional weight - it's already a pain in the backside due to the size of the components, but instead of being able to load the fender on end you have to load it flat because of the wheelchair, so it takes more room. A wheelchair also takes away some of the magic of operating the Dalek as movement is somewhat stilted and not as fluid as swivelling with the feet. You've probably guessed that I've operated Daleks both by foot and using a powered base. In fact my Dalek is now fully remote. My scores: 1. Foot powered = most fun 2. Powered wheelchair = best balance of fun and practicality 3. Remote controlled = most practical, still fun and worth doing (but make sure you get no.1 out of your system first ) RV -
